About Bunded Oil Tanks

A bunded oil tank is a tank within a tank. The inner tank holds the oil, and the outer bund is built to hold at least 110% of it, so if the inner tank ever leaks or splits, the oil stays contained instead of reaching the ground, drains or a watercourse.

This is our full range of bunded heating oil tanks, from 650 litre slimline tanks for smaller homes up to 20,000 litres for farms and commercial sites, in plastic and steel from Tuffa, Atlantis, Carbery and Harlequin.

When do you need a bunded tank?

In England, a domestic oil tank must be bunded if it holds more than 2,500 litres, sits within 10 metres of a watercourse or 50 metres of a well or borehole, could leak into an open drain, or supplies more than one home. Businesses storing more than 200 litres of oil need secondary containment too. In practice, a bunded tank is now the standard choice for almost every installation.
