Collection: Domestic Oil Tanks

Our domestic oil tanks are bunded heating oil tanks sized for homes, holiday lets and small rural businesses. Every tank in this range has a built-in bund – an outer tank that holds at least 110% of the inner tank – so if the inner tank ever leaks or splits, the oil stays contained instead of soaking into your garden or a nearby drain.

We supply tanks from Tuffa, Atlantis, Carbery and Harlequin, from compact 650 litre slimline tanks for narrow side passages up to around 3,500 litres for larger houses and farmhouses that want fewer deliveries a year.

Choosing the right tank

• Size: most homes use a 1,000 to 2,500 litre tank. A bigger tank means fewer deliveries and lets you fill up when oil prices dip.
• Shape: slimline tanks sit flat against a wall, low profile tanks fit under windows and fence lines, and vertical tanks take up the least ground space.
• Plastic or steel: plastic tanks are lighter and won't rust; steel tanks are tougher and harder to tamper with.
• Fire protection: if the tank will sit close to your house or a boundary, you may need a fire protected tank (see below).

Placement rules worth knowing

In England and Wales, a domestic oil tank generally needs fire protection if it sits within 1.8 metres of a building or 760mm of a boundary. A bunded tank is required for tanks over 2,500 litres, near watercourses, drains or boreholes, or where the vent can't be seen from the fill point. Your OFTEC-registered installer will confirm exactly what applies to your property.
